세계에서 내노라하는 유명대학들이 송도글로벌캠퍼스로 집결하고 있다. 송도글로벌캠퍼스는 해외유명대학의 경쟁력있는 학과를 한데 모아놓은 종합대학 형태다. 오는 9월 개교를 앞두고 있다.

송도글로벌캠퍼스 개교로 국내 학생들이 해외유학을 가기 위해 드는 노고와 경비를 절약하면서 한국에서도 경쟁력있는 첨단의 학문을 배울 수 있는 길이 열린 셈이다. 송도글로벌캠퍼스는 학생선발 및 커리큘럼이 미국 본교와 같이 운영되고, 학위수여가 동일한 점이 장점이다. 또 학생들이 본교 캠퍼스로 이동하여 수업을 들을 수 있도록 되어있다.
송도글로벌대학캠퍼스 부지는 총 29만5천㎡로 1차로 2010년 9월까지 3만4천700㎡터가 먼저 조성되고, 2011년 8월 2차부지(5만6천400㎡), 2012년 8월 3차부지(20만3천800㎡)공사가 마무리된다.

현재 캠퍼스 입주를 확정한 대학은 미국 뉴욕주립대와 노스캐롤라이나주립대이다. 뉴욕주립대는 경영학, 컴퓨터공학, 전자공학과를, 노스캐롤라이나주립대는 생명공학, 섬유공학과 등을 운영하는 방안을 검토중이다. 이들 대학은 올해 9월부터 예비교육프로그램을 운영한 뒤 신입생 모집을 거쳐 2011년 9월부터는 정규 학위과정을 운영할 것으로 보인다. 또 미주리대, 델라웨어대, 남가주대, 조지메이슨대, 조지아공대, 서리대학 등도 입주의사를 밝혀 인천시와 양해각서를 체결했다.?
JCB(Joint Center for Biosciences)기관인 솔트인스티튜트 투자연구기관, 생명공학연구소를 비롯해 CEWIT 연구소의 한국분원도 유치되어 송도경제자유구역에 지식기반 산업 발전에 일익을 담당하게 된다. UC버클리법대는 오는 5월경 단기간의 최고경영자 과정을 송도에서 열고, 그 성과를 바탕으로 장기적인 교육프로그램을 개발 운영하여 ‘버클리법대 IELE’교육기관을 설치할 구상을 갖고 있다.

2012년 9월 전면개교하는 송도글로벌캠퍼스에는 학생기숙사, 교직원 숙소, 연구원 숙소를 비롯해 도서관, 지원센터, 학생회관, 교수회관, 체육관 등의 공동시설 등이 들어서 글로벌인재를 양성하는 시설로 활용된다. 1만2천명의 학생들이 캠퍼스를 거닐게 된다.
송도글로벌대학캠퍼스사업은 지식경제부와 우리시가 국내최초로 외국대학(학부중심)의 공동캠퍼스를 조성하여 외국인의 정주여건 개선과 외국인 투자유치 촉진을 통해 지식기반 중심의 산학연 클러스터 구축 및 동북아 교육허브로 추진해 왔다.
